So today was very busy and I was not able to plant any fruit or vegetable seeds.
Today, I am planting Hope. Hope that some one is reading this, hope that some one might actually want to take on this challenge the way me and my wife did, and hope in . . . . Once you have firmly planted your Hope make sure you spray it with belief, and then give it lots of faith. We have found ourselves going through a lot of spinach on a daily basis so when I came across these seeds I had to snag them up. A direct sew into 8 ounce cups till I decide where to put them a little water and they are on their way, just be sure to keep them moist until sprouted. Today we were cooking dinner and these few pieces of garlic were not worth a finger tip so we decided to add them to yesterdays Potted Planter. . . These are going to be allowed to go to seed so they can be harvested and spread for further future cultivation! It's amazing how nature herself will provide us with seeds. . . the choice is up to us to decide what to do with them! What did you decide? Re-Birth Earth one seed at a time, one day at a time. . .
These seeds are some I have been growing for a few years now. I have found that if you allow the seeds to turn brown on the bush you end up with much much healthier sprouts. These I am creating a trio Lavender Lady, Forget me Nots, and Basil to create a wonderful Potted accent. We shall see how it grows, no soaking. . . just direct sew and water! As you can see the seed holes are rather random, or so they appear at first glance. Because I am incorporating more than one variety of seed we want to take best advantage of each plants attributes Lavender 1 single seed in the very heart of the pot for a fragrant scent and its airy body, Basil a pinch of seed lightly sprinkled around the heart as they will grow up taller in the center encircled in a froth of lavender, and place the forget-me-not seeds in the deeper 1/4th inch holes made with the pen tip they will cascade over the edge as well as work as filler in the base of the pot. A beautiful fragrant accent to any Space eight inches by eight inches. . . Cant wait to see if reality will be as stunning as my vision???? ONE SEED! ONE . . . ? Cucumbers are great and don't take up a lot of space if placed on an existing fence line. . . they grow up the fence! Add vinegar and fresh dill to turn your cucumber into a pickle. We soaked the seeds in warm water to encourage germination for two days prior to planting. . . as you can see they are already active. Today 16 seeds were planted watered and will in turn feed how many? One Edible Seed, one Edible Cucumber, ONE HUNGRY HUMAN GETS FED! One more human on planet earth does not starve. . . what is your one edible seed for today? Re-Birth Earth Challenge
Today while taking a break out back just after the lunch rush I was eating an apple.
I decided to plant the core where my dog had dug up a big giantnormous hole. since this was not planned I neglected to get any photos, but as soon as it sprouts I will update the post. So you can see the re-birth earth challenge can be done very simply, it does not take any time at all to shove something into the earth. Start your rebirth earth challenge today! So I came across an old Jalapeno Pepper core that my wife had dried out last season. . . I had to ask her the question "do you have to separate the seeds from the core or can you just plant the whole thing?" So by way of an answer she said we'll see. . . so we planted the entire core with all it's seeds still attached, pressed in into the earth, covered it with soil, and watered it! Now time will only tell. . . . . . . some seeds prefer to be dried out and preserved until the new season is climatically hospitable to ensure life. . . planting one edible seed per day Re-Birth Earth Challenge. . . How can you change your world? How do you one person create a paradise of food a true garden of EAT'N. . . one seed 365 days. . .know NO LIMITS! Based on today's seeds I would have to say that there will be watermelon somewhere. . . they soaked over night in warm water and are only 85 days away from the fruits of our labor. Nothing brings in SUMMER like WATERMELON! We planted four, eight ounce cups available at the local dollar store, with three seeds in two and four seeds in two. The goal is to transplant them as a single root base when the weather warms up enough. It's amazing one edible seed 365 days . . . Re-Birth Earth. Take up the challenge!
Everybody who knows my wife knows that we don't do laundry without finding seeds in her pocket, er pockets rather. . . . Here is a perfect example of how a plant transforms itself from seed to a sprout to food without even trying in three weeks. These are Nasturtium - Dwarf Alaska. The leaves taste peppery and tasted great added to our Spinach, Iceburg Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion Salad with Lime squeezed over the top. Enjoy. . . All of these pictures above were taken the same day as you can see the sprouts are at varying ages. They are of two separate sets of seeds started within a week of each other. I like to soak them in a damp paper towel wet with warm water. Helps germinate the seed faster. . . Delicious. Can't wait to see what the blooms taste like and it is said the seeds can be pickled and used as capers! One EDIBLE SEED. . . 365 days a year. . . Just DO IT! |
