Today's seed Lavender Lady was purchased in the local Gardening Department. It has so many uses from it's fresh clean odor fighting capabilities to it delicious accent in food and as a calm relaxing agent when brewed in tea. As you can see in the pictures the seeds are very small and only require a hole less than half the height of the pencil tip. Water very gently. Breathe Deep. . . tick, tock, tick, tock. . . Waiting is usually the hard part. . . but today we found the very first Lemon Queen Sunflower pushing its little head out above the dirt to the kiss of sunshine this morning! It's so cool life growing , dancing, LIVING! Tomorrow it should have it's first leaves open to the sun. . . Can't wait to see! Let's Re-Birth Earth one seed at a time. . . ARE YOU UP FOR IT? A single Edible Seed everyday for 365 days a year. Let us all see where a single edible seed leads us.

It's Ground Hog Day, . . . . again, . . . and with it another 6 week prediction of winter, no worries perfect timing to prepare for spring. . . by planting my seeds now they will all be ready to go in the ground after Easters last freeze as beautiful plants instead of seeds needing TIME to mature. We have five flag posts and around the base will be Center - Mammoth Sunflower growing to the height of 10 to 12 ft, then Lemon Queen Sunflower growing to the height of 6 to 9 ft, Then Evening Sun Sunflower growing to the height of 4 to 6 ft tall, encompassed around the base by Dwarf Alaska Nasturtium. All started here today. As well as two trays of Four O'clocks mixed colors and two trays of Shasta Daisys. . . Gardening is a great pleasure if we just ride time right and let it play it's course. . . Amazing things happen! Daily! Today we planted an opportunity to feed a few birds, give ourselves a healthy snack, and cultivate enough seeds from each variety to seed again next year. . . imagine all that and pretty cut flowers for the table who said you only had to plant ONLY ONE seed a day? The Re-Birth Earth Challenge- To plant at least a single Edible Seed EVERYDAY! What happens at the end of a single year? At the end of Two, Three, Four, Five. . . .??? Who made a difference?
Today's fruit seed is from a Florida Honeybelle Orange. Grown on the Indian River. Mr. and Mrs. Barfield just got back late yesterday with a fresh load of Honeybelle, Ruby Red Grapefruit and Florida Navel Oranges over st the Country Store . . . The honeybelle is by far the juiciest of the bunch and the seediest by far, 13 seeds from this one! Join the #ReBirthEarth Challenge and plant a single seed a day for 365 days and see how your dietary world changes. See you tomorrow. . .
We needed some lemons today to make Misty's Cole Slaw here at the restaurant. The Dixie is right across the street, so Misty went over to get a couple. She got back with this orange'ish colored Lemon and we cut them open and were dumbfounded. . . Lemons they were not! We went online and found out they are Meyer Lemons! A cross between the Mandarin Orange and the Lemon, it has a much sweeter flavor than regular yellow lemons. Not so tart. So in honor of the Meyer Lemon my wife and I decided to plant a Meyer Lemon seed just so we could get a chance to eat another yummy fruit from what will one day possibly be a tree, and the photos are the proof of our pudding, . . . (um fruit, that is.) Today's Meyer Lemon Seed has a long life span ahead of it to grow from the seed it is today into a tree of tomorrow that we can be proud of, but as you see we only planted one seed the rest are going to dry out in a dark location on a clean dry paper towel. After they are dry, wrap them up in the paper towel and fold it closed tape it and write what the seeds are in it. Save in a dry dark location until you want to plant them or give them away to a friend so they can start a seed of fruit of their own. . . be the start of the Re-Birth Earth Challenge! Did you eat anything today that has seeds? Cool!, . . . now plant one!!! So today my wife told me we were planting Sunflowers. These seeds are some that were plucked from the sunflower we grew last year shown here in this picture. The variety is Lemon Queen, named so for it's bright yellow petals. My wife says to soak the seeds for a day or two before planting them in starter containers while allowing them to get a head start on spring! So today my wife and I decided to use some seeds from a Dragon Fruit we ate a month ago. Luckily my wife likes to save and dry out seeds.. We literally found an old metal pot on the back porch this morning that needed some TLC, so we cleaned it up, put fresh soil in it, and wow as good as new. The best part is it will make a perfect starter location for our Dragon Fruit Seed. We have been excited over this challenge. In fact did you know Dragon Fruits are the fruit of a cactus? Amazing! I know some may say you have to separate the seeds before drying, but my wife said "What if I just cut a thin slice of the fruit, save it, then somewhere. . . someday . . . plant it and water it and see what happens. . . " . So we just did, now we will keep you updated as to our seed slice's progress.
Come join us in the Re-Birth Earth Challenge - Where you plant at least a single edible seed everyday for 365 days, just 1 year and see what happens. . . who joins with us in the challenge? How many lives are going to be transformed when your seed meets earth? Help us change the world one seed at a time! Imagine what would happen if every one planted one seed a day for a year. That's the challenge, for 365 days, just one little year, the goal is to plant one seed a day. As I sit and watch my wife planting seeds and watching them grow and later enjoying the fruits of her labor, I wonder what would happen if everyday everyone in the world planted a seed from an edible source. What would happen? Could we eliminate starvation and obesity at the same time? All the time creating excellent curb appeal, inside and outside our Homes, and our Neighborhoods and our Towns and our Cities. Does it have to have any bounds? Know any limits? So here is the challenge - To eat at least one edible fruit, vegetable, herb, or other item and plant the seed you harvest from it everyday! My wife and I have decided to take up the challenge and we hope you would like to join us. Eat it and Plant it in soil and watch it Grow . . . Today being our day one we have chosen to plant a Peanut. Items Needed: Uncooked Peanut, Soil, Water
Optional Items: Pot, Pencil, Potting Soil Level Easy: Place soil in pot, use pencil to poke hole in soil, drop in peanut, cover peanut with soil using pencil, water! Place in window! Warning: Do NOT compress the dirt, allow the water to do it naturally. If you would like us to send you a raw peanut suitable for planting send us a self addressed stamped envelope to M.C.
